Firm HistoryAfter being incorporated several months earlier, Stan J. Schultz opened the company doors on July 15, 1997 under the name Schultz Engineering Services, Inc. (SES). He and his wife, Kathy, had envisioned starting an engineering firm of their own before graduating from college. Building valuable trade experience while working for engineers and general contractor firms for six years, Stan learned ways to establish a successful engineering practice. Initially, the company completed designs for on-site septic systems, water and sewer system extensions, along with many other small civil-oriented projects. At this time the entire company consisted of one owner, Stan Schultz, and a single employee, Grady Robinett. Grady, who was hired to provide survey support, still remains a valuable asset to the firm. Through the establishment of several water and sewer districts in southern Missouri, Schultz’s workload increased enabling opportunities to expand the company. After just one year, Stan moved the office from its original location in an abandoned farmhouse, to a rental space with more office room for additional staff. In the summer of 2000, SES experienced two events that together have played a major role in molding the company into what it is today. First, Bob Summers, a graduate of Georgia Tech, was hired in as an E.I.T. and proved to be a vital asset of the company. Summers continued to progress within the company and earned his professional engineering license. Secondly, to accommodate the increasing number of personnel and laboratory facilities, SES purchased and relocated to a new office building located on PP Highway just west of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Over the next five years the firm executed several large contracts in southeast Missouri with sewer districts, water districts, MoDOT, the Corps of Engineers, and many other clients. Seeing an opportunity to further expand the firm’s service area, SES made a commitment to provide engineering services to clients in central Missouri. In the early spring of 2003, Schultz established a second office at The Lake of the Ozarks that currently employs four people and offers a full range of engineering, surveying, and materials testing services. On January 1, 2007, Bob Summers became a partner in the firm, changing its name to Schultz & Summers Engineering, Inc. As a part owner and principal, Summers functions as the firms production manager; overseeing designers and coordinating scheduling with the department heads. A large volume of private developments prompted SSE to extend its services to the Branson, Missouri area. Within one year the firm was awarded several design contracts for commercial, residential, and recreational projects. In January of 2009, Schultz & Summers Engineering opened a materials testing laboratory in Louisiana. The new lab is located in Kenner, Louisanna and is validated by the Corps of Engineers. Today, the company is over 11 years old, offering services across the state of Missouri and Louisianna while maturing into an efficient services-oriented professional firm. Of its 40 employees, 17 have over 7 years experience within the company. Together the Schultz & Summers Engineering team strives to provide each client with consistent, timely, and professional service.
